With the aim of sharing the latest developments in Orange’s research, the Research Blog lets our researchers have their say. They tell us about their work as well as sharing their visions and convictions regarding the technological disruptions and changes in society that are unfolding. It’s a place to interact with people who are passionate about the future of our digital and human world.

A user-centred approach for field engineers

Orange has launched a research programme to address the present and future problems of network field engineers. The aim is to provide new technological solutions to support their activities, from deployment to maintenance to decommissioning. To do this, researchers started by looking at uses to define the technological building blocks, rather than starting with the technological building blocks and working backwards to the uses. This “user-centred” approach guarantees innovative tools that are tailored to the real needs of engineers in order to optimise their work.
