Advocating for ethical and responsible AI by design

In 2018, a group of experts appointed by the European Commission published a set of guidelines defining responsible and trustworthy artificial intelligence. In terms of ethics, the group identified four main principles: respect for human autonomy, prevention of harm, fairness, and explainability. The question thus becomes how to implement these principles by design in order to achieve an ethical Artificial Intelligence System (AIS).
